Italian leather and its popularity, imports and exports

If you have known anyone who has visited Italy, then you’ll know that more often than not they return with an authentic Italian leather product, be it a purse, handbag or jacket. But what makes Italian leather so appealing, especially considering the price of certain products in cities such as Rome and Milan?

If you were to ask people in the fashion industry about the appeal of Italian leather, especially considering its cost, you would be told that it is all about quality. While leather is produced all around the world, and has been done for Leather bagsthousands of years, Italian leather production has been famed since the time of the Ancient Romans when it is was heavily incorporated into a legionnaire’s armour.

In heavy leather producing areas such as Milan and Florence, it is a lengthy process which much of the treatment being done by hand. Only the highest quality animal hides are used for leather production with it being tested for suppleness and quality. Even then, Italian producers only use the finest dyes and chemicals to ensure that the leather products are long-lasting and durable.

With such high leather production areas in Italy, it is not surprising to see the material dominate industries, be it fashion, car manufacturing (with the material being used for car seats) or interior design. As such, Italian leather is extremely popular and people are willing to pay a lot of money to ensure they get the finest product. When it comes to leather products, any label that says “made in Italy” is often a sign of quality.
