Gucci - Italian Fashion labels and exports

Gucci Brand and Labels

One of Italy's most famous fashion brands is The House of Gucci, more commonly known as Gucci.  Originally found by Guccio Gucci in the 1920s, Gucci has grown from a local boutique specialising in handbags to the Gucci exportsbiggest Italian brand in the world, and a fashion empire that makes billions each year.

With over 250 stores worldwide, Gucci is one of the most popular fashion brands in the world, producing high quality leather products such as jackets, handbags and wallets. It wasn't always the case however. During the 1980s, Gucci's standing had fallen in the fashion community with knock-offs flooding the market, and company in-fighting damaging its reputation. One story that made the headlines involved one of Gucci's sons beating his sibling with an answer phone. That is how heated the domestic politics got!

The company had a major turnaround in the late 1980s, with new designs putting Gucci back on top as well as deals with car manufacturers to produce the leather upholstery. When the company went public in 1995, the company grew even further, eventually winning 'European Company of the Year' in 1998. Today, the company's products are beloved by the public and celebrity A-list alike, namely its line of handbags and purses. The fashion house has also created a popular line of jewellery, including some top of the range watches.

Gucci is still one of the biggest names in fashion and with stores in Milan, Paris, London and Hong Kong, its reputation shows no sign of fading.
