Guide to Versace - (Italian Exports and Imports)
The Versace Brand
Like Gucci, Versace is one of Italy's most famous fashion brands. Like many of Italy's fashion houses, it has grown more and more popular, despite a history of company in-fighting that, in this case, includes murder. Versace was first founded in Milan in 1978, by Gianni Versace. The first store was opened on the popular Via della
Spiga, one of the main shopping roads in the city and quickly became popular with the local populus. Specialsing in clothing, accessories, make up and even home furnishings, Versace has grown into a global brand.
Today, the company is headed by Dontella Versace, sister of Gianni, who took over when he was killed in 1997. She expanded the company's range of products, including starting the cosmetic line. Today, the company has just under 100 boutiques all around the world, and has also expanded their line of products. The company today has a wide range of products that incorporate all of its high-end goods. These include Gianni Versace Couture, Versace Jeans Couture, Versace Home Collection and Versace Collection. The company even operates a hotel the Palazzo Versace, a luxurious six-star hotel situated on the Gold Coast of Australia.
Not only does Versace get plenty of celebrity endorsements due to their range of products, but many are close personal friends of Dontella Versace. As a result, the likes of Bon Jovi, Liz Hurley, Madonna and Courtney Love have all worn Versace products, and even appeared in ad campaigns.
