3 Italian wines worth importing
In 2009, Italy exported goods to a total of $369 billion – 4.7 % of this was wine and related products worth a total of $1.2 billion. As such, the wine industry is big business in Italy, but with all the choice what are the wines worth importing? Below are three of Italy’s highest rated wines that would take pride of place in any wine collection;
Villa Sandi Prosecco Extra Dry
Hailing from North Italy, Villa Sandi Prosecco is incredibly popular with seafood such as chilled shrimp. It is described as one of the best accompaniments to Italian foods, especially cheese such as Gorgonzola and
Mozzarella.
Garnering positive reviews worldwide, this light peach and pear tasting wine is the perfect bottle of wine to have with your meal.
Antinori Peppoli Chianti Classico 2001
Everyone loves a good red and you can’t get better than this Chianti, which boasts rich flavours, well placed tannins and a strong body. Named for the Italian region where it hails from, the Antinori Peppoli Chianti Classico uses Sangiovese grapes and is flavoured with a hint of vanilla to make a well-balanced and flavourful wine for any occasion.
Marenco Scrapona Moscato D’Asti (Piedmont) 2003
A popular wine, Marenco Scrapona Moscato D’Asti has zesty flavours of fruits including tangerine, grapefruit and melon. It also has a honey aftertaste and as such, is the perfect accompaniment to Italian deserts such as ice cream and biscotti. This is a favourite wine of most visitors to this region and is one of my personal favourites and comes highly recommended.
